A school in St Albans is opening its doors to past pupils, staff and governors to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Wheatfields Infants and Nursery School in Downes Road, Marshalswick, opened in 1965 with 94 pupils and Miss Jean Brooks as Headmistress along with three teachers.

During the last 50 years more than 5,000 children have started on their journey through life at the school.

The school now houses 320 pupils and 60 staff.

To celebrate the 50 years, the school will be holding a Summer Jamboree on Saturday June from 3pm to 6pm with a large display of photos from the past five decades.

The school is inviting any ex pupils or staff to come along to see if they can identify themselves in any of the pictures.

Headteacher Jane Whitehurst said: "It is a fantastic milestone, combining past and present memories of 50 years at Wheatfields Infants and Nursery School.

"The Jamboree will be a wonderful way to celebrate and one that the school community will hopefully remember for years to come."
