Police searching for missing 83-year-old James Lomax are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare.
Mr Lomax, who suffers with dementia and is very vulnerable, was last seen leaving his home in Manor Road, Wheathampstead at around 4.50pm on Thursday.
Police officers gathered at Memorial Road Wheathampstead, at 9am today to search the area. This search is currently on-going.
Members of the public are now being asked to assist with the search. Anyone who is fit, healthy and willing to assist should attend Memorial Road as soon as possible.
Volunteers will need to be available for a minimum of 6 hours and expect to cover up to 12 miles during the search. Some of the area covered will be open ground so please dress appropriately.
If you are not able to attend – police are asking people to keep a look out for Mr Lomax and please check your garden or sheds/out houses.
Mr Lomax is believed to be wearing a light brown coloured anorak, dark blue trousers, opened-toe sandals and brown socks. He may also be wearing a dark coloured flat cap.
He is likely to be confused and disorientated.
Anyone who sees Mr Lomax, or knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact police via the non-emergency number 101.
