A photographer from St Albans has embarked on a project to snap the characters that make up the city.

Stephanie Belton has just started the community project called Faces of St Albans to give recognition to the people making up the character of the city.

The 40-year-old who lives in Hazelmere Road said: "What has pushed me to finally take action was the sad news of John Delaney, the accordion man, passing away before I got the chance to photograph him.

"Since then, I have been keeping a close eye on social media and reading up on fascinating memories from people who have grown up in St Albans, reminiscing on shops and places that are long gone or memorable characters who made their mark on our town."

After following the story of Tony who owns the Italian deli Buongiorno Italia on Lattimore Road, who was recently featured in the paper as he started a campaign to save his shop, Stephanie decided he would be the perfect subject for the first Face of St Albans.

Once she has captured a selection of portraits Mrs Belton is planning organise an exhibition in town to celebrate all those who took part.
