A planning application to convert a former care home into ten flats has been submitted.
Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing Association has today submitted the application to turn St Claire's in Church Crescent into ten self-contained flats.
In October and November last year, Hightown consulted widely on converting St Claires from a ten bed care home to a 17 unit HMO (House in Multiple Occupation), potentially for use by homeless people who would otherwise be in B&B accommodation.
Having taken account of the views expressed, including those voiced at a large public meeting in the council chamber, the plans have been amended to include fewer, larger units.
Hightown said they hope to house homeless people in these units, but this is dependent on getting Local Authority subsidy.
Details of the planning application will be available to view on St Albans District Council's website laster today, and subject to the council’s planning consultation process.
