Police have confirmed that the deceased man found by police on Wednesday is that of James Lomax, who was missing in Wheathampstead.
Mr Lomax, 83, went missing from his home in Manor Road last week. After an extensive search, including members of the public, a body was found in fields near his home on Wednesday afternoon.
A statement from Mr Lomax's daughter Christine Ward said: "Jim’s wife Pauline and all the family would like to thank all the well-wishers and volunteers in helping find Mr Lomax.
"It was an unbelievable response - we are all so very grateful to neighbours and carers, who have also been very supportive at this sad time.
"My brother and I would especially like to thank everyone for their help.
"A big thank you to Hertfordshire Police for all their support and hard work through this very stressful time. They have been very caring and thoughtful – absolutely amazing."
