A charity golf day raised more than £4,000 for the air ambulance serivce.

More than 100 golfers braved the heavy wind and rain to take part in the event, held by the Rotary Club of St Albans at Verulam Golf Club.

The money raised will go to the Herts and Essex Air Ambulance Service, which is deployed two to three times every day, bringing specialist doctors and critical care paramedics to the scene of an incident.

Incidents include traffic collisions, falls, cardiac arrests and strokes.

Each deployment of the helicopter costs £2,700 and the annual cost of £480,000 is mainly raised from charitable donations.
