Children representing schools from the parish were presented with a selection of books for their school libraries by St Stephen Parish Council under its Books for Schools initiative.
The books were presented at the Annual Parish Meeting, held on Thursday 30 April, to children and staff from Mount Pleasant, Lane School, Park Street School and Killigrew School.
Councillor Ian Getley represented How Wood School.
The Books for Schools initiative has been run annually by the parish council for the last five years. Each year a selection of books are presented to the school to supplement their libraries.
Councillor Dorothy Kerry, St Stephen Parish Council vice-chair, said: "Given the increasing pressure on school budgets the parish council decided a number of years ago, to contribute a selection of books to local schools.
"It is interesting that even in the electronic age, books, continue to provide great excitement and children still enjoy the thrill in borrowing books from their library.
"Each year we discuss book choices with the schools to ensure we provide books either relevant to special events, such as the Olympics, or to the current curriculum."
