A 15-year-old has been arrested after a cannabis factory was discovered in St Albans.

Police were called to Breakspear Avenue on Friday after a call from a member of the public, and found more than 250 plants with an estimated street value of £100,000.

The plants, which are at various stages of maturity, have been seized and will be destroyed.

A 15-year-old was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and was later charged and released on bail until August 8.

DS James Twitchett from St Albans Local Crime Unit, said: “Cannabis has a strong smell.

“If you suspect someone you know may be involved in drugs, please contact 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously. We continue to gather intelligence on illegal drug misuse and so called legal highs.

“Whilst drugs are not a major issue in St Albans we are determined to disrupt this type of crime by continuing to target those believed to be involved in the supply of drugs and related crimes across the county.”

Detective Inspector Pete Frost said, “Police Officers and partners across the St Albans Community Safety Partnership continue to work closely together to robustly detect and prevent crime to make St Albans a safer place to live and work.”
