Hat designer centenarian Biddy Camp has celebrated her 100th birthday with a party in St Albans.

Relatives and friends (pictured below) travelled to Ardmore Hotel for the celebrations on May 22.

Biddy, who received the traditional congratulatory card from the Queen, took the landmark birthday in her stride telling family: "I've had a wonderful time."

Born in Luton, Biddy taught many women to become milliners working for Sanders and Brightman, a large hat manufacturer in Bute Street.

When this closed in 1969 due to construction of the Arndale Centre, Biddy set up her own company BD Hats LTD in Dudley Street, designing and making ladies fashion hats.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

She met her husband, Dick Camp, in September 1935 and went on to have two sons.

The couple, who were married for 30 years until Dick sadly passed away in 1968, also have seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Biddy's company continued until it was taken over by Kangol, when she moved to Power Court and continued as a designer for some years.

She then went to work for Ken Peirson & Son of Old Bedford Road, Luton, as a designer, finally retiring at 85.

Biddy now lives in Harpenden, and recently enjoyed a second party at her son Richard's home in Luton.

Biddy said: "I thoroughly enjoyed my two parties seeing so many old friends and surrounded by my loving family.

"I am so lucky but I am still feeling tired from all the fun."
