Parking permits will not be introduced to ease problems in St Albans.

Mike Lovelady, the head of legal, democratic and regulatory services at St Albans District Council, made the statement after residents called for parking problems to be addressed in Sandridge Road.

One resident, Emma Kosh, contacted the Review after setting up an online petition amid concerns for her safety.

Councillor Lovelady responded: “At this time, the council is not working on any plans to introduce timed parking restrictions and residents’ permits in Sandridge Road.

“There are procedures for residents to follow if they wish to have their area considered for parking restrictions, including the introduction of a parking permits scheme.

“The first stage is for residents to demonstrate that 60 per cent of people in the area support parking controls.”

The Review ran an online poll asking if parking was a problem on the road. Sixty-eight peole (64 per cent) said it was, while 34 (32 per cent) said it was not.

Mr Lovelady said if more than 60 per cent of residents sign up to the online petition when it closes on July 7, the Car Parking Working Party will then decide whether to add their request to the council’s work programme.
