The third state-of-the-art council-owned leisure centre will open tommorrow.

St Albans District Council will officially open its £4.8m Cotlandswick Leisure Centre in London Colney from 11am.

It comes less than three years after Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre opened in St Albans and one year after the new Batchwood Sports Centre re-opened.

Cotlandswick, which took 42 weeks to build, boasts a large air-conditioned gym stocked with the latest training equipment, a small café, soft play area for children, nine artificial grass football pitches (pictured below), exercise studio and indoor court for recreational badminton and mini-tennis.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

Martin Holland, general manager of 1Life, said that Cotlandswick’s artificial pitches, which were produced in the UK and tested to Fifa standards, were ideal for five-a-side football game and are growing in popularity.

Visitors to Cotlandswick on Saturday will be able to enjoy a free open day from 10am-5pm.

Football fans can join an Arsenal Soccer School, footvolley taster sessions and a football tournament on the day.

People can also play badminton, mini-tennis, laser tag and join a range of fitness classes.
