St Albans is set to bask in its hottest temperatures of the year so far, with the mercury expected to soar higher than in parts of Spain next week.

Dust off the deck chairs, break out the barbecues and stock up on plenty of ice, because according to forecasters, cool June temperatures will give way to thermometer busting conditions from next Wednesday until Saturday.

Scorching weather will start to build across Spain this weekend before spreading northwards across France early next week as a tropical continental airmass begins dominating the weather.

The week will start with temperatures of 21C on Monday, rising to 28C by Thursday.
