A dog bit a 69-year-old in St Albans.

Police are appealing for information following the incident, which occured in a field between House Lane and Craiglands at around 8.30pm on Thursday, June 25.

The victim was approached by the tan Staffordshire bull terrier, which was not on a lead, and the dog then bit the man on the back of the leg.

The dog’s owner and the dog left the area in the direction of Sandridge, without leaving any details.

The dog owner is described as a white man, aged 40 to 45, around 5ft 10ins tall of slim build, with short, fair, greying hair. He was wearing light coloured jeans.

The Staffordshire bull terrier was wearing a dark coloured harness.

PC Meg Sheppard said: "I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or who thinks they may have seen the dog and its owner in the area around the time stated, to contact me."
