The blistering heat is set to be broken by torrential rain and powerful thunderstorms tomorrow.
Following the hottest July day ever yesterday, cooler temperatures are set to bring some relief from the searing heat, forecasters say.
Record-breaking temperatures of 34C were recorded in St Albans.
However, the Met Office has just issued a yellow warning of rain for tomorrow, with thunderstorms expected in the evening.
The public are being warned that there is a chance of significant disruption, with as much as 50 mm of rainfall possible in three hours.
Part of St Albans could still see the mercury rise to around 22C today and 26C tomorrow – with highs of 25C on Saturday and 21Con Sunday.
The warning is in place until noon on Saturday.
