A 27-year-old cyclist was hit on the side of the head in an “unprovoked attack” in London Colney.

Police are appealing for information following the serious assault, which occurred in High Street at around 5.35pm on Tuesday.

The victim was cycling along the High Street outside the chip shop near to the junction of Kings Road, when he was hit to the side of the head.

He suffered fractures to his face which requires surgery.

Two men were seen to be standing over the victim after he had fallen to the floor and police would like to speak to them as they may have vital information as part of the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Karen Lewis from the Local Crime Unit at St Albans said: “I am also aware that there were a number of other people in the area at the time who may have witnessed what happened and I would ask anyone with any information to please contact me.”
