A driver who killed a cyclist shortly after using his mobile phone has been jailed for 21 months.
John Mitchell, from Redbourn, had sent two text messages and read another two in the minutes leading up to the crash last January, St Albans Crown Court heard.
Mark Greenwood, 57, died as a result of the crash.
Despite Mr Greenwood's partner asking the judge not to send Mitchell to prison, the judge said he had a duty to the public and jailed him for causing death by dangerous driving.
