A previously failing care home in Radlett which turned itself around has come under a new business brand.

Houndswood House Care Home in Harper Lane now comes under Brighterkind - which proposes to redefine the elderly care experience by drawing on good practice from the hotels and leisure sector.

Deby O’Hare, care home manager said: "As a Brighterkind home we will be part of an organisation that helps each resident to have a lifestyle they feel is right for them.

"Brighterkind homes provide high standards of personal and nursing care; a full recreation, entertainment and activities programme that supports physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and a restaurant style dining experience with menus planned to meet residents’ individual dietary preferences and nutritional requirements."

Houndswood House was rated good in it's last inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which stated that the home was now providing a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led service.

Ms O'Hare added: "We aim to attract increasing numbers of people who choose to self-fund their care, as well as continuing to welcome residents whose care provision is supported by the local authority."

The care home will include 49 rooms for resident and will have 58 staff, including carers, nurses and chefs.

Ms O'Hare said residents will be consulted on any changes and given choices about recreation, entertainment and activities and on menu planning.

Jeremy Richardson, chief executive of Brighterkind said: "We are creating something new in the elderly care sector. High standards of care are central to our proposition but additionally people are becoming more discerning about other aspects of service and the overall resident experience is increasingly important.

"This is particularly so when people are self-funding their place in a care home."

Planned refurbishment and redecoration work at Houndswood is due to start later in the year.
