Primary school children are being encouraged to think about their futures through space themed careers lessons called Rocket into the Future.

The lessons, which are being delivered by Hertfordshire County Council Youth Connexions, will be fun and interactive and engage pupils in thinking about their individual skills and aspirations.

The programme has been piloted in various schools in the county.

A year six student who took part in the programme said: "I learnt that there are so many more jobs to explore in the world than I thought."

David Williams, cabinet member for education at the county council, said: "This initiative will ensure that our young people have early access to the expert guidance offered by Youth Connexions - our careers specialists. I hope that other primary schools will tap into this extra resource for their students."
