A football club is gearing up for the launch of its newly refurbished clubhouse.

Harpenden Town Football Club has spent £100,000 on new look facilities at the club in Amenbury Lane.

The clubhouse will officially open on Saturday, when there will be an under 10s mini-tournament in the morning followed by a first team match against Broadfields United.

The event will also raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and other good cases.

Club chairman Roman Motyczak said: "We hope to provide footballing action for everyone, to celebrate the huge effort gone into upgrading our facilities, and to push for Rothamsted to be the home of football in Harpenden.

"Two years ago when I and neighbour Kevin Hodge joined the committee we were told 'you have £15 in the bank, good luck.'"

The club received a grant of £74,000 from the Football Foundation and now have a clubhouse providing a cafe and toilets for park users."

Harpenden organiser for Prostate Cancer UK Steve Gledhill said: "Harpenden Town invited us to be involved last year and we had a great time raising several hundred pounds for the charity.

"As someone who battled prostate cancer myself I know how valuable is their support and awareness raising campaigns."
