The owner of a St Albans-based photography company has been named as a finalist in a national business award for female entrepreneurs.

Nevina Holland, 37, is one of seven finalists in the Best Business Women Working with Children and Families category and one of five finalists in the Best Customer Service of the Best Business Women Awards.

The annual competition seeks to recognise women in the business community, who not only are making a difference in their own lives, but also in their local communities.

Mrs Holland, who used to be in marketing, founded Peekaboo Studios in 2010.

Run from her garage in Millfield Close, the mum-of-two takes portraits of children, mainly new-born.

“I’ve been so lucky to be able to forge this new career to accommodate my family by weaving business in between daily school runs,” said Mrs Holland.

“I cannot believe that I have been chosen for two awards.

“Peekaboo Studios just celebrated its fifth anniversary and what better way to celebrate than to be receiving this ultimate recognition for my business. It has not sunk in yet how my creative business concept has got this far.

“I absolutely love my job and feel so lucky to be able to work from home.”

Mrs Holland added: “My family is precious to me which is the reason why I started the business. I want to offer the same for other families.”

The winner of the award will be announced at a black tie gala evening on October 15 at Batchwood Hall.
