The managers of a St Albans store have been recognised as leaders in the jewellery industry.

Keith and Max Newlan, managing directors of Kings Hill in Market Place, were named as Retail Start at the annual Hot 100 event.

The ceremony, organised by Professional Jeweller magazine, at London’s Freemason Hall unveiled the UK’s most influential people working in the jewellery industry.

Taking one of the coveted top 100 spots for those who bring innovation and creativity to the industry, the father and son duo attended the event but said it was a tram effort,

Keith Newlan said: "We are extremely proud to have been honoured with an award.

"I'm very proud the efforts of my managers, designers and sales staff have been recognised."

The store, which employs 6 staff and will celebrate 60 years of trading later this month, recently underwent an extensive makeover, having rebranded the boutique store and increased our focus on handmade bespoke, alongside branded ranges.

Having started in Borehamwood, the third generation family business moved to St Albans just under ten years ago.

Keith, whose parents owned the shop before him, and whose son joined the team last year. believes what sets the store apart from others is the in house designer.

He added: "Being able to make bespoke jewellery definitely sets us apart from other stores. The passion from all members of staff is remarkable, and we hope to trade in the city for another 60 years."

Editor of Professional Jeweller and organiser of the Hot 100 awards Sarah Louise Jordan said: “The Hot 100 was a spectacular and fitting celebration of talent. What makes the Hot 100 so successful is that it levels out the playing field.

"Of the 100 people chosen there are no winners, meaning the skills, passion and talent are celebrated in a sense of unity, making the Hot 100 a celebration of the jewellery industry and not your typical awards ceremony.”

The Hot 100 is a shortlist of the most impressive individuals from the UK jewellery industry that have showcased innovation, business development and design skills over the past 12 months.
