A business award-winning couple want to give something back to St Albans by awarding two people who are ‘stuck in a rut’ life-changing gifts.

Having recently won the Chamber of Commerce Best New Business award for their personal training studio, Total Care Personal Training, Liz and Tommy Carey, from London Road, have decided to launch a programme called ‘Get out of the Rut’.

Within this programme, two people over the age of 18, who for whatever reason are well and truly stuck in a rut, will be awarded more than £4,000 worth of life-changing gifts from businesses in and around the city.

Mr Carey, who is a professional actor and personal trainer, opened Total Care Personal training with his wife in February this year.

He said: “It’s that moment in life when you’re stuck in that some old routine, wishing for something a little better, brighter or more exciting – but just can’t quite seem to find it.

“At one point or another, we’ve all been there.

“I myself was once living Groundhog Day – the perennial hamster wheel – and Liz experienced the same with her advertising job in London.

“We are looking to receive nominations for people who perhaps work in care homes or for other people in their home or in the community, are full-time mums, single dads or parents who work all day, have kids or other responsibilities, hardworking charity workers and volunteers or people who are depressed, bereaved, lack in confidence or simply are a bit ‘lost’.”

Nominations are now open with the deadline for entries on November 30.

The winners will be announced on December 16 and the programme will begin in the New Year.

Prizes will include a 12 week fitness and wellness package working with Total Care Personal Training, a life and mind coach or hypnotherapist, as well as gifts from beauty salons, spas, restaurants and photographers among others.

The couple are also looking for more St Albans businesses to get involved and support them.
