A fallen tree in St Albans caught fire on the railway line.
The fire service attended the incident at St Albans City station at around 8pm.
Storm Barney has begun to batter south west Hertfordshire, with strong winds reported across the region.
Gales of up to 70mph are expected tonight causing the Met Office to issue a sever weather warning.
