There were festive floats, stage performances and farmers’ market stalls galore at this year’s Christmas Carnival in Harpenden.

At the event which took place on Sunday, children were able to get their first glimpse of Santa in his grotto and the town’s Christmas lights were switched on from the stage in Church Green by town mayor Brian Ellis and mayor’s Christmas poster competition winner Clara – a pupil at Roundwood Primary School.

Other members of the town and church groups also took part in a procession, which took place in High Street, alongside the cast of Aladdin who are performing at the Harpenden Public Halls during the Christmas period.

Town mayor Brian Ellis said: “It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves in the town centre.

“The procession and Santa’s grotto were extremely popular, and the council is delighted with the display of lights in the town this year.”
