Members of the St Albans and Harpenden Volunteer Police Cadets were on hand to offer crime prevention advice to the public at the town’s Christmas carnival on Sunday.

Eight cadets spent five hours manning a stall, handing out leaflets and offering guidance on topics such as burglary prevention and personal safety.

Sergeant Steve Alison, who leads the St Albans and Harpenden Cadets, said: “At this time of year, people can easily get distracted while busy preparing for Christmas.

“This event was the perfect opportunity to remind them to remain vigilant and to pass on some useful advice to help them keep their homes and belongings more secure.

“The feedback from members of the public was extremely positive.”

St Albans and District Chief Inspector Ken Townsend added: “The Cadets are a great asset to our community and I am grateful to all those who volunteered their time to take part in the event.

“By working together, we can continue to keep St Albans and Harpenden a safe place to live and work.”
