An appeal to help raise money for vulnerable children at Christmas is more important than ever this year following a funding cut by the county council.

Home-Start St Albans launched its annual Snowflake Appeal last week, a campaign which aims to help vulnerable children across the UK by inviting businesses, community centres, retail centres, schools and the general public to put on fundraising activities.

The event took place at The Brickyard on Thursday, November 26.

Home-Start manager Suzy Moody said: “We wanted to do something a bit different this year to promote the appeal and I am really pleased that it was a success.

“We were really lucky to have some great support from local business’ who donated our fantastic raffle prizes, and the Brickyard who donated the use of their venue and refreshments.

“Because of this generosity, all £995 that was raised on the evening will go towards supporting families.

“After losing £60,000 of funding from Hertfordshire County Council in September, this year’s Snowflake Appeal is more valuable to us than ever to ensure we can continue to support our local families.”

The Snowflake Appeal is run by all the Home-Start schemes across the country between November and January.
