Members of St Albans Masorti Synagogue joining this year’s annual Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving as part of Interfaith Week was a “moving addition”.

The annual event took place at St Albans Cathedral on Sunday, November 22 and allowed those who have experience a bereavement to remember, give thanks and to celebrate the lives of loved ones who have died.

The event, which is in its eighth year and organised by St Albans Bereavement Matters, saw people light candles and write messages to be hung from two trees by the alter.

At the beginning, white doves were released outside the west front of the cathedral and Sub-Dean Richard Watson went on to lead the service.

This year, Rabbi Rafi Kaiserblueth, and other members of St Albans Masorti Synagogue, assisted with the service as part of Interfaith Week activities from November 15 to 21.

Bishop John Gladwin, the chairman of Bereavement Matters, said: “Coming together, in a place of peace and quiet such as the sacred space we ding in St Albans Cathedral, can be especially refreshing whatever our faith and whoever we are.

“Those who have experience this service where we remember those we have lost bear witness to how moving and healing this occasion can be for us all.

“The inclusion of the Jewish Memorial Prayer sung by Rabi Rafi was a moving addition to this year’s service and a fitting way to recognise the St Albans Masorti Synagogue’s participation in Interfaith Week.”
