Five St Albans and Harpenden developments have been shortlisted as finalists in the Hertfordshire Building Futures Awards.

Batchwood Tennis Centre and Parkside View in St Albans, 62 Kimpton Road in Wheathampstead and two buildings at Rothamstead Centre for Research and Enterprise in Harpenden have been shortlisted as finalists in this year’s awards.

The awards recognise exceptional design of public and private buildings that improve the environment in Hertfordshire.

Derrick Ashley, responsible for environment, planning and transport at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “This year there has been a record number of entries to Building Futures Awards, demonstrating that sustainability is a key priority for planning and construction in Hertfordshire.

“The finalists will be showcasing excellent examples of construction projects which benefit the environment and quality of life for residents in the county.

“Nearly every type of building is represented, including community centres, a university, schools, colleges, a museum and leisure centre as well as commercial offices, a research centre, private homes and student accommodation.

“The enhancement of Watford town centre public realm is also on the shortlist.”

Trophies will be presented to the winners on March 15 at The Old Palace, Hatfield House.
