Improvements worth £100,000 of are to be made to Harpenden Sports Centre including state-of-the-art gym equipment and a new training area.

The major investment was announced by 1 life who operate the centre in partnership with the owners, St Albans District Council.

Users will find the changes will increase their exercise options in the gym with the overall space being better utilized.

Sean Mitchell, general manager for 1Life at Harpenden Sports Centre, said: “We are delighted to be making these changes to the gym at Harpenden.

“After the investment we will be able to offer our members greater choice, more up to date equipment, a more challenging workout and more space in the gym.”

Cllr Annie Brewster, who is responsible for sport, leisure and heritage at the council, said: “This is a very exciting revamp of Harpenden Sports Centre.

“The updating of the gym equipment to the most modern available on the market is a great step forward as is the provision of a new training area.

“It will benefit all users of the centre whatever their age or level of fitness.”

There will be short periods of disruption to the existing gym floor during the redevelopment works which will start on Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 of January.

The free weights area will be affected intermittently until the end of February when works will be completed.

The new group cycling bikes will be installed on Tuesday, March 8.
