A new taxi app has been launched in St Albans to rival Uber.

Uber, a multinational online taxi company, which works via a smart device app, is currently not on offer in St Albans.

To fill this gap, Kamran Khan, owner of A1 taxis, has launched St Albans Drivr, which is available to download iOS and Android devices.

The app is called ‘St Albans Drivr’ and was launched two weeks ago.

Mr Khan said: “”Uber is currently not available in St Albans and Harpenden but we wanted to offer people that kind of service.

“The feedback so far from the app has so far been really good – people really like it.

“Like Uber, customers are sent the registration of the vehicle picking them up and the driver’s details, including a picture.

“The app can also send information to parents such as estimated time of arrival, and other details of the journey, so it is very safe in that way.

“One thing our app does that Uber doesn’t is people can pre-book taxis.

“It’s taken us four years to develop this app and we’re very happy with what we’ve achieved.

“We’re looking to become well established in St Albans first but in the future we’d like to expand and become available in other places.”

The company is based in the heart of St Albans and it also specialises in airport travel.

As well as the app, journeys can be booked on the St Albans Drivr website.
