A restaurant manager has been sentenced for 12 food hygiene offences.

Nisar Hussein, had been running Murgano’s, a fast-food takeaway and diner in Victoria Street, St Albans, when the offences were committed.

He was prosecuted by St Albans District Council and also convicted of two charges of obstructing a council officer by giving false information.

Hussein, of Kilburn in north-west London, was sentenced at St Albans Magistrates Court last month to a 12-month community order which requires him to undertake 200 hours of unpaid work.

He admitted to all the charges at a hearing in December last year.

Michael Lovelady, head of legal, democratic and regulatory services for St Albans District Council, Said: “This was a successful prosecution that has resulted in a conviction.

“The action taken against Mr Hussein shows that the council will not tolerate food businesses in the district that fail the hygiene standards laid down by law.

“Poor hygiene can have serious consequences as it puts the health and safety of customers at risk.”

Environmental health officers from the council served 12 food hygiene improvement notices on Hussein in July 2014 after an inspection.

A criminal prosecution was then launched when a follow-up visit revealed he had failed to comply with any of the notices.
