Three mothers have come together to train for the upcoming London Marathon.

Carmen Dorsett, Sarah Carver and Helen Thomas decided this year they will sign up to complete the 26 mile race through the capital.

All three mothers, from Harpenden, are all new to running and are raising money for Lattitude Global, a charity aimed at educating and developing young people volunteering abroad.

Mrs Dorsett, 40, of Station Road, said: “It is the first time I have ever done a marathon before.

“I have watched the race on TV for years and thought I would do it this year.

“We are all new to running marathons and it has been a big challenge.”

According to Mrs Dorsett training for the race has been the hardest part and she twisted her ankle a few weeks ago but that did not stop her preparing for the run.

She said: “I have been off running but now getting back into it.

“I have definitely got the running bug but probably won’t do anything this big again. Just half marathons.”

For the London Marathon entrants must choose a charity and many people raise money for cancer charities.

Mrs Dorsett and her friends have picked an independent charity Lattitude Global.

She said: “I think it is very important for young people to travel. You gain lifelong skills.

“So many people run for cancer research and they are all worthwhile charities but this one is different.

“I would definitely push my children to go take part in this charity when they are old enough.”
