A St Albans pub has come up with an ingenious way of saving customers on a bad date.

The Brickyard in Verulam Road last week put up a sign in their women’s bathroom offering to help if a date takes a bad turn.

The sign reads: "Tinder date gone wrong? Doesn’t look like his picture, or just plain weird?

"If you’re on a date and it’s not going well, come to the bar and ask for Rachelle or Jennifer and we’ll get you out of it and/or get you a taxi.

"Your safety and happiness is our highest priority."

The picture has been shared thousands of times on social networking site imgur.

Most commenters have reacted positively to the sign, but some have suggested that the same help should also be available for male customers.

Writing on their Facebook page, staff at the pub wrote: "A sign for the safety of our female customers has caught the eyes of thousands and you have all touched our hearts with your support.

“In all honesty, we had no idea our sign would attract this level of attention.

"We plan to launch a similar safety campaign for men, in light of the extent of the feedback received.

"Yes, it transpires men (and indeed dates of all orientation) are all too often faced with a very similar dilemma/awkwardness and crying out for a 'get out of jail free card'."

The Women’s Equality Party St Albans called the initiative an “excellent idea”, as the group voiced its approval and shared the post on its Facebook page.
