A group of ladies have joined forces to take part in a Cancer Research UK’s Pretty Muddy event and will be holding a fun day immediately after to raise even more money for the charity.

Sarah Warren, 23, and Antonia Ludford, 23, both from Bushey, have organised to take part in the event at Finsbury Park on July 24 with eight of their friends, who also live in the Watford area.

The team decided to take part in the Cancer Research UK event as they have all been affected by cancer in some way or form.

Ms Warren said: “We spoke about it for ages and though ‘why not’.

“We’ve all been friends since primary and secondary school and we all went through so much together after some of our families were affected by the illness.

“We chose the Finsbury Park event because the date suited all of us.

“We’ve all been affected personally by cancer and want to help raise money for a charity that might help to beat cancer one day.”

The women have been doing group training sessions and running through their own obstacles to prepare for the event.

In just two days they collectively managed to raise £860.

Ms Warren added: “We really didn’t think we could make so much in just two days.

“It’s been a month now and we have made more than £2,100 and we still have two and a half months to go.

“We have got such amazing support behind us, it’s going to be an emotional day.”

After they complete the mud-filled run, the ladies will be returning to The Horse & Chains Pub in Bushey to host a fun day and raise even more money.

Ms Warren said: “The manager Richard Bradshaw has been a huge supporter of what we are doing and has let us do our fun day there.

“We’re going to have raffles, stalls, cakes and an auction with some impressive bits plus more.

“We have lots of little ones around us so there will be bits for them to do too.”
