Family and friends are organising an evening of live music to celebrate a man who they say "lived for music".

Pete Waters was a well known musician on London’s Irish music scene, playing in a number of bands including the Plastic Paddies.

Mr Waters’ friend Bruce Furzeman, whom he met while busking in Australia in the 1980s, is inviting the community to gather in Mr Waters’ memory at one of his favourite venues, the Garibaldi in St Albans.

The two met while busking in Australia in the 1980s. Mr Furzeman said the informal gathering will feature well known musicians and promises to be great 'craic'.

Mr Waters was born to Irish parents, growing up in a musical family.

He died last year at the age of 57.

Mr Waters’ brother, John said: “He was a great man who had a good word for everyone and lived for music.

“He did a lot of charity work and his legacy is encouraging young musicians, especially those around the St. Albans area.”

Mr Waters' family hopes the gathering will raise money for The Peace Hospice in Watford, where the staff looked after him during his illness.

The gathering for Pete Waters will take place at the Garibaldi, Albert Street, St Albans, on Sunday June 12 from 4pm.
