Two French students have become the first interns at an aircraft museum in London Colney.

The aeronautical engineering undergraduates joined the de Havilland Aircraft Museum on June 20.

Quentin Andres and Gregory Nicol, both 20, from Laval University, Paris, will be helping volunteers to restore and preserve some of Britain’s most iconic aircraft.

Mr Andres said: “We chose the de Havilland Aircraft Museum because it means we will be working alongside very special aeroplanes and restoration teams.”

Mr Nicol, a qualified glider pilot, added: “The experience will be very good and will allow us to work closely with these planes and the restoration work.

“It would be wonderful to actually work on the aircraft.”

The students’ other duties will include acting as stewards, interacting with visitors to the museum and teaching them about the various de Havilland aircraft on display.

Museum marketing director Mike Nevin said accepting interns was a new step for the museum.

He said: “The museum welcomes our first interns from France and appreciates their help and support during our busy summer holiday period when we will be open six days a week.”
