Nigel Farage says he is standing down as the leader of the UK Independence Party.

Mr Farage said during the EU referendum campaign he wanted the country back, and now he wants “my life back”.

He says he has "done my bit" following the referendum and said the party was now in a good place.

He said he will not change his mind about stepping down and when asked about who he would like to lead the party he refused to give a name and said “may the best man or woman win”.

He described leading UKIP as "tough at times" but "all worth it".

The MEP said the UK needed a "Brexit prime minister".
