A group of parents and volunteers have been working and raising money to create a new play area at a school.

The school committee at Park Street School in St Albans have raised more than £4,000 and have collected donations to create a new play area at the school.

Schoolchildren have also been collecting money and placing them in Smarties tubes to help with the fundraising.

Nicky Wallace, 42, who has been involved in the project from beginning, said: “We are hoping to open the playground before the new school year starts.

“This school has collected donations and volunteers to design and raise money for the new equipment for the school.

“We have been given some tyres which we are building into a dragon so the children can play on it.”

According to Mrs Wallace the school does not currently have anywhere for the children to play and believes this new playground will be enjoyed by all the children.

She said: “We have had so many people getting behind us and getting involved in the project.

“The children have not had any playground for at least 18 months and this will really help them.”
