BBC golf pundit and former professional player Ken Brown sounded the klaxon to mark the start of Harpenden Mencap Charity Golf Day.

The event raised £6,800 for Mencap by hosting golf, raffle and an auction in the evening. The money raised will go towards renovating the charity’s residential property in Douglas Road.

Anne Hignell, trustee of Harpenden Mencap, said: “We have worked hard to raise the profile of Harpenden Mencap as a local charity helping local people with learning disabilities and our annual golf day has become an important event in our fundraising programme.

“Our golfers are very generous and many have returned each year to support our cause and for this we are very grateful.”

The event on Friday 8 July was Harpenden Common Golf Club’s 6th year of hosting the fundraiser.

Terry Crump, general manager at Harpenden Common Golf Club, said: “We were very pleased that Harpenden Mencap has chosen to hold their gold day here for the last six years and we are already looking forward to welcoming their golfers back for next year’s event.”
