Staff, neighbours and councillors have teamed up with Keep Britain Tidy to clean up the area.

The litter party was made up of a group of neighbours, St Albans District cllrs including Iain Grant, Eileen Harris, Janet Smith and the Mayor of St Albans Francis Leonard.

Some 25 volunteers from the St Albans Retail Park McDonald’s restaurant also joined.

Tanya Clark, business manager of the St Albans Retail Park, said: “It was great to see everyone come together to complete this litter pick and I would like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work.

“As a business we understand the important role we play in making the area a better place.

"When local businesses and community members work together we are able to achieve so much more and this event is a perfect example of this.”

The group split up into three separate teams to clean up Batchwood, Sopwell and Alban Way, and collected 23 bags in total.

This event is just one of a number of McDonald’s clean-ups taking place across the UK as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s anti-littering campaign, ‘Love Where You Live’.

Mayor Cllr Leonard said: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with Tanya, the crew from McDonald’s, the councillors and the residents.

“It was a really enjoyable day and it is great to see businesses playing their part by keeping the community clean by organising events like this.”
