A support group for those who have experienced heart conditions were treated to their annual Strawberry Evening with entertainment from a jazz band.

Hertbeats was formed in 1997 to provide advice, information and help to cardiac patients and their families in the St Albans area.

Steve Gledhill, Harpenden, a member of the group, said: “We like to do exercises and walks to keep ourselves healthy, but we like to enjoy ourselves every now and again.

“We have around 300 members and our doors are always open to new members.”

The event was held at the hall of St Mary’s Church in Marshalswick and the members were treated to strawberries, cream and Buck’s Fizz.

Jolly Jazzers, a five piece jazz band, performed traditional jazz and swing-style music to the 70 guests that came to the event.

Brain York, chairman of Hertbeats, said: “This was yet another highly successful social evening for Hertbeats members. It’s an occasion when our heart patients can enjoy themselves and indulge in strawberries and cream as a rare treat.”
