A journalism student will be walking the same route as the Jarrow Marchers but in reverse as part of a university project.

Corrine Macdonald, 24, Scarborough, will walk for three weeks from London to Jarrow, with St Albans being one of her stops. Miss Macdonald hopes to arrive in St Albans on September 4 and 5.

Her plan is to see if the Government's Northern Powerhouse initiative has made an impact by interviewing people who have decided to base their businesses outside of London.

Miss Macdonald said: “I am just about to graduate and leave London after seven years and am really hopeful that I will find work back home up North. I’ll be interviewing designers, filmmakers, journalists and writers.”

The documentary is inspired by the 80th anniversary of the Jarrow Marchers and their willingness to demand jobs in the North East in the 1930s. The marcher's had the ideology that wealth should be spread throughout the country. The project will be part of her Masters in Arts and Lifestyle Journalism at London College of Communication.

Miss Macdonald will start her walk next Monday and aims to arrive in Jarrow on September 24. To follow Miss Macdonald's progress and be involved in her film visit www.alongwalktowork.com
