Firefighters battled flames as part of a safely demonstration in front of 2000 families.

St Albans Fire Station invited members of the public to their open day on September 3, with fire demonstrations proving to be a popular attraction.

Crews also held a RTC demonstration, where members of the service showed how they would work at the scene of a car accident.

Mayor Frances Leonard came along to the event and was shown around the station by Crew Commander Simon Lincoln.

One stall holder, Sarah Taylor, from St Albans, was selling cakes on the day and raised nearly £500 for the Fire Fighters Charity. She will also be running the London Marathon in 2017 for the charity, which she decided to do after her house was badly smoke damaged in a dishwasher fire last December. St Albans Fire Crews were present at the scene.

A bouncy castle, teddy bear parachute drop and sweet stalls proved to be popular with children that attended the event.

Safety and first aid talks were given by The British Red Cross.
