Two businesses will go head to head as they tackle a five mile muddy obstacle course this weekend.

Terrence Ritchie who works as joint head of SA Law’s Real Estate department in St Albans, will lead a team in a push it for the peace challenge on Saturday September 24.

However, his wife Sue Ritchie, will compete against them with a team from Watford’s Specsavers branch.

Both teams will run for Peace Hospice Care in Watford, who work to improve the quality of life for patients and families facing a life- threatening illness.

Terence Ritchie, who is a new Peace Hospice Care trustee, said: “It was only when my father-in-law was diagnosed with terminal cancer that I experienced first-hand the care and support offered by the Hospice culminating in the charity enabling him to fulfil his wish to die at home surrounded by his family.

I was only too aware of the cost in financial terms this level of care would attract but crucially this meant my father-in-law was able to remain at home, surrounded by his family.

"This really brought home to me and my family the need to continue to raise funds at any given opportunity.”

The SA Law members have split into three teams, Law & Odour, The Mudley Crew and Mind over Mudder, to compete against the Specsavers group in High Street, Watford.

Ruth Ritchie, an Optometrist at Specsavers Watford, said: “As a local company, we wanted to give something back to the local community and use our presence on the high street as a way of supporting a local charity; Peace Hospice Care was our first choice and a unanimous decision.

“We have a team of 14 women and we all share the same determination to get through the course and do our best. One of our team is one of our audiologists and wears hearing aids herself. She is going the extra mile and is challenging herself to run without her hearing aids (mud and hearing aids don't mix), testing the teamwork and communication skills of her other colleagues.”
