A young entrepreneur has started his own app giving students cheap and easy meals to make whilst studying.

Niam Parmar, 21, of Brackendale Grove, Harpenden, decided to set up his own app after dropping out of university in 2015.

After working at an accountancy firm, he decided to set up an app for smart phones which allows students to write their own recipes so others can use them.

Mr Parmar said: “One of the main issues for students at university is wondering what to eat and how to cook it.

“The app has many different meals which are quick, cheap and all cooked by students using the app.

“Some are from other cookbooks submitted by the students but they are changed to make sure the recipe is suitable and cheap enough for students to buy.”

The app, Student Chef, has been downloaded more than 6,000 times worldwide including countries such as Australia, USA, China, Belgium, the UK and even Singapore.

Mr Parmar said: “I wanted to help the other students at university. It is already stressful for students in the first few days of university.

“Most of them do not want to have the added stress of wondering what to eat or cannot afford to eat.

“All our recipes on the app are for 60 minute meals or less. I know some universities try and push the students to use the facilities on their site so they have more time to study.”

The graphic designs on the app were created by Mr Parmar’s school friend, Tom Ephgrave and the app is run by just three people and has been registered as a limited company.

Student Chef is available on all app stores free of charge and welcomes any contributions to the increasing number of recipes already available.
