One of the winners of the TV Talent show 'Got to Dance' has set up a new dance class to encourage children to get fit.

One member of dance duo, Chris and Wes, has gone solo to set up his own dance class in St Albans.

Chris Donnelly, 26, from Hayes, won Got to Dance in 2011 with his dance partner, Wes Clack 24.

He said: "I left school and I didn't know what I wanted to do. But when I started dancing it has been a bit of a whirlwind."

Mr Donnelly learned to dance with Avant Garde hip hop and contemporary dance group in London, where he met Abbie Rose, 17, who will be working with him in St Albans.

He said: "They wonder why kids are going out of their brains these days, they are trying to get top grades, determine their worth by the number of followers on social media and get hung up on looking good, but it's not about that.

"Dance is a way of expressing yourself and is a great way to make friends."

With plenty of experience, Mr Donnelly has performed with Cheryl Cole as a backing dancer, worked the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has shared a stage with Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson.

"Dance is so underrated. You have no idea how much work backing dancers put in. I believe there is no such thing as the word 'can't'. Hard work pays off, and if you want it bad enough you'll get it."

The classes take place on Wednesday evenings from 6.15 to 7.15pm. Classes will be £6 and from 11 years and above.
