The woman whose life has been portrayed in an award winning film will be at the Alban Arena.

To celebrate Older People in St Albans, visitors will be able to meet Philomena Lee, whose life story became a novel and Oscar-nominated film ‘Philomena’.

Ms Lee’s life was chronicled in ‘The Lost Child of Philomena Lee’ by Martin Sixsmith in 2009 and was about her experiences in Ireland when her son was forcefully adopted when she was young.

As well as meeting Ms Lee, visitors to the event can watch indoor cookery, indoor bowls, line dancing and can find out about a wide range of sociable activities for older people.

Financial guidance and crime prevention tips will be on offer and charities specifically aimed for older people will be around to give advice and help.

The Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Frances Leonard will be formally opening the event at 10.15am.

The day will run from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday 19 October at the Alban Arena in St Albans. Entry to the event is free.
