The hard work of St John Ambulance cadet has been acknowledged with the highest award.

Alice Mackay, 16, who volunteers for the charity’s St Albans unit, has been awarded with the award that shows she has demonstrated and sustained effort studying 24 different subjects.

The skills she has learned such as first aid, communication and working in the community means that one day she could potentially save someone’s life.

Miss Mackay said: “I’ve really enjoyed studying a range of subjects to compete my award. I feel proud and hope to inspire my fellow Cadets to complete theirs.”

Her recent first aid skills helped her assist her father when he collapsed after an anaphylactic reaction.

She lives in Hatfield and has been a volunteer since 2013 whilst studying A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths. She hopes to go to university to study medicine.
