Several primary schools in south west Hertfordshire have been named as being some of the best in the country.

The Abbey Church of England VA Primary School in St Albans and St Dominic RC Primary School in Harpenden were named in the top 500 schools in the country by the Sunday Times.

The broadsheet published its points-based findings in its new edition of ‘The Sunday Times Schools Guide, Parent Power this Sunday’.

Schools were ranked based on the number of pupils who achieved a level 5 in reading writing and maths between 2013-2015.

Positioned at number 10, the highest ranking school in the whole of south west Hertfordshire, was The Abbey Church of England VA Primary School, in St Albans.

Maple Primary School, in St Albans, was ranked 64 followed by St Dominic RC Primary School in Harpenden was positioned at number 86.

Manland Primary School, in Harpenden, was positioned 135 and Garden Fields Junior Mixed and Infant School, in St Albans, was at 173.

Wood End School, in Harpenden, and Aboyne Lodge School in St Albans were ranked 174 and 179 respectively.

Positioned at 267 and 295 were Cunningham Hill Junior School, in St Albans, and Crabtree Junior School, in Harpenden.

St Peter’s School, in St Albans, was ranked 366 followed by High Beeches Primary School, in Harpenden, at 383.

Next were Roundwood Primary School, in Harpenden, at 451, then St Albans and Stephen RC Junior School, in St Albans, at 475.

Rankings were produced by adding three English scores for reading, grammar and writing, to the maths result from key stage 2 Sats in 2015.

Out of independent preparatory schools across St Albans and Harpenden there was only one school. St Columba’s College, in St Albans, was positioned at number 94.

Schools in this category are were ranked by the collective proportion of children achieving level 5 in key stage 2 SATS for reading, writing and maths in 2013-2015.
