The body of Nozrul Islam, of Nelson Avenue, in St Albans, was pulled from a pond in Highfield Park, St Albans, by police on July 2.

Coroner Geoffrey Sullivan concluded Mr Islam had voluntarily killed himself as evidence heard at the inquest today at Hertfordshire Coroner’s Court revealed a suicide note was left.

On July 1, Mr Islam left his home at around 11.30am to go to work however when he did not return at 5.30pm his family became concerned.

They contacted police at around 9.30pm and they were advised to contact Mr Islam’s friends or other members of their family.

His family contacted police again after becoming more concerned about him and he was reported as a missing person in the early hours of July 2. His family said as it was Ramadan, Mr Islam would not be eating or drinking.

Detective Constable Stuart Alexander said at the inquest an officer went to Mr Islam’s home in Nelson Avenue at around 3am.

DC Alexander said: “The officer was taken to Mr Islam’s bedroom and found his laptop had no password on it.

“His sister found a note on his laptop which read Mr Islam had committed suicide and his body was in the small pond in Highfields Park.”

Officers went to the pond and used a flashlight and saw something in the water. The fire brigade was called to assist police. His body was pulled from the pond.

After searching the body police found items belonging to Mr Islam including credit cards and a University of Hertfordshire student card.

DC Alexander contacted his work but discovered Mr Islam had not been employed at the business since 2014 but he was not in any financial trouble.

His laptop was searched and there were payday loans and drowning searches made on his laptop. The inquest also heard Mr Islam did not suffer from any medical or mental health problems.

Mr Islam was pronounced dead by paramedics around 4.45am.
